As you may already know, I am a HUGE fan of Matchbook Magazine, the online monthly magazine that I have followed since its initial launch in January 2011. In the words of the editors themselves, Matchbook is all about...
"...past and present fashion, decor, the arts, travel and culture. Brimming with intriguing interviews, stately homes, captivating memoirs and swoon-worthy fashion spreads, matchbook seeks to inspire women around the globe to design a life they adore. From lipstick to letterpress, gelato to grosgrain, and paris to peru, consider us your field guide to a charmed life"
I was delighted to see that Matchbook did a feature on Christie's this month! The editors visited the interiors warehouse located on Long Island City and did a story/interview about working in the art auction business. They interviewed Ginette Lospinoso...
I absolutely loved what she had to say! And was happy to know that I had very similar impressions of the whole ordeal.
I have never actually been to the warehouse the Matchbook team visited (and I don't necessarily have a huge desire to go to Long Island City to see it...) but I HAVE been wandering around in the second, smaller warehouse located at the actual auction house - the one at Rockerfeller Center in the basement only houses things that are either going up for auction within 2 days or just came down and are awaiting pick-up from buyers. The space is obviously smaller but still absolutely FULL of a wide range of amazing things. I can only imagine how large and expansive the Long Island City warehouse is.
Here are some pics from the magazine but definitely check out the entire feature for yourself! Here is the link: http://matchbookmag.com/issues/october-2012/
