Bronzes at the Royal Academy

Went to the Royal Academy today to see the exhibition Bronze...an exhibition where every bit of bronze produced from BC Mesopotamia to 20th century contemporary was displayed. I didn't much care for the exhibition as a whole but here are some of the high points...

Dancing Satyr, fourth century BC, Greek
(found at the bottom of the sea in a shipwreck off the coast of Sicily just a few years ago!)

This turkey was made in the sixteenth-century to decorate the gardens of the Medici court in Italy - by Giambologna, 1567

and skipping forward a few centuries...this bronze basketball was made by Jeff Koons

It was certainly interesting...Ancient Greek, Cambodian, Chinese, Nigerian, Italian, and Persian bronzes from centuries ago sat right next to modern pieces made by people like Koons and Giacometti

Here is what the rooms looked like...

and here is the outside of the Royal Academy of Art

On my way home I ran across the Picadilly Market...cool stuff

wonderful day!
